100 years of national parks in Queensland
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is celebrating 100 years of national parks in Queensland.
A section of Millstream Falls National Park was the first park gazetted in north Queensland. The park is rich in Aboriginal and European history and protects the Millstream Falls, reputedly the widest single-drop waterfall in Australia. During World War II the Millstream Falls National Park was a campsite for troops of the 7th (18th, 21st and 25th Brigades) and 9th (20th, 24th and 26th Brigades) Divisions of the Australian Army. Evidence of their time spent in the national park can still be seen in the park by way of old trails, remnants of building and other infrastructure. The World War II heritage walk, which travels through the area used by the 2/14th and 2/28th Battalions & a range of guided walks, activities and displays will be on offer.
